Perez Hilton made his reputation as the Queen of Mean, and now he's going nice?
Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 09:31PM Perez Hilton, a gay guy who built a "media empire" online by trashing on celebrities and outing closeted homosexuals, is now promising to be nice.
From a business standpoint, I'd say that doing a 180-degree turn away from what made you famous and gained you a following of millions of people probably isn't going to do much for your client base, considering the multitude of celebrity gossip bloggers and the fact that you got famous by spewing vile filth and drawing pictures of nasty things on photos of people's faces.
However, I'll give the guy credit - he admits something that beings of lesser intelligence would likely not be self-aware enough or savvy enough to understand, that being that if he goes nice, he's also going to need to find something to make himself more appealing, by being funnier, or more creative, etc. Props for that.
But what is his brain type?
From the videos I've seen of him, and from what I know about him, my guess would be ESFP. He's clearly an Extravert, loves the spotlight, loves to party, built his reputation and business on the social scene in Hollywood, definitely not a straightlaced type of guy (pun intended) and has done a lot of really random, quite creative photoshoots as well as having brightly colored hair, etc.
His blog is not weekly or daily, it's hourly, dealing with the minutia of hollywood celebrity lives. And he's got commentary on all of it. Talk about being squarely in the moment!
Body style would lead me to believe ESFP as well, although he did lose like 50 lbs supposedly and now is starting a diet website! It's amazing how people get famous for something like drawing penises on photos of celeb faces, and then think that they suddenly have the answers for all of humanity's ailments. But I digress.
The question I have though, if he's ESFP wouldn't he have been a lot nicer? esFp's are notoriously friendly, bubbly, loveable people. esTp's on the other hand...and esTJ, well - but he's definitely not a J, especially an _S_J. They tend to favor society's social norms, not attack them with pink flaming pitchforks.
He could be close on the T and F, but he comes across as much more feelerish. That's my take anyway. Even Feelers can be mean, especially an esFp who's being mean creatively. Or one making fun of other people's flaws, when they mimic his own (he calls Bruce Willis' daughter "Potato Head" when he himself has an enourmous melon. Etc).
Check out the video below. ESFP?

- constantly writing about the minutia in the lives of hollywood stars, i.e. Jennifer Aniston went to Starbucks, OMG!- his posts, from what I've seen, are typically very surface.- he claims he never realized the potential consequences of his actions; an N would be lying if they said that, because N's think about the future and the past and tend to analyze things. S's, on the other hand, especially if they're unbalanced, wouldn't necessarily see the potential harm that outing people or writing nasty things could do. They're just doing what feels right and fun in the moment.- an ESFP would be a Lead Sensate and Secondary Feeler, meaning his emotions would be dictated by whatever is going on in the moment, and those two would drive his life. That appears to be Perez.
Those are a few of the things I see.
And I hear you on the guy-guys-seem-like-Feelers thing, but stereotypes exist because there is some truth to them. Most gay guys ARE naturally Feelers, if one is to look at statistics and put 2and2 together. They're not faking anything with their art and culture, it's really who they are.
Fodder for another post probably because it differs with women.
Honestly I don't have anything against any types, because they all have their strengths and weaknesses.
What I do tend to point out - and maybe this is a fault of mine - is when a person is displaying UNBALANCED characteristics.
But it could be any quadrant - someone could be too much a Feeler, or too over the top anal in the J quadrant, or, as might be the case here, too short-sighted and unbalanced to the S side.
N's absolutely need to become balanced to the S - I encourage my acquaintances who are really, really N to become more S, because I know how important that is.
On the flipside, though, I think it's also really key for people like Pacman Jones, Charles Barkley, et al to become more balanced to the N side, because living at 100% S has gotten them in a lot of shortsighted trouble from really stupid mistakes.
So I agree with you, totally. And if I come across as being too critical of the S, I need to do more to point out solutions rather than just criticize.
Part of that probably stems from seeing the most talented people throughout my lifetime throw it all away because they were too S and made shortsighted decisions. So maybe it does irk me - not the S, but the unbalanced shortsightedness that tends to come along with strong S function.
Wouldn't you think the biggest waster of potential would actually be the P type rather than the S type? I think of the S as a type that is a doer, an actor. Sure their actions are often decided moment to moment and might not be long term but at least they do. I think of P as often being procrastinators and underacheivers as opposed to J who are serious about life and tend to be "finishers" as I often read that word in the myers briggs descriptions for J types. For example, for ENFP it says they come up with great ideas but need Js in the group to follow them through for the idea to come to fruition. Another thing that sticks out in my memory is from a page of myers briggs statistics for all the different type combinations. All the TJ types were the ones who scored the highest gpa's in school. Why? They are probably the types that best used their resources and time. They logically organize and complete tasks. That could be the definition of maximizing one's situation.
I personally think all types are cool because they are all needed to make the world go round. It is like the world is one body with many parts(or types in this case) that bring their unique talents that in their own lives and contribute. Some types are more annoying to me, but I think that is true for everybody.
To back up my point on types ending with the TJ combination here are some of the reported facts.
ENTJ: •Among top 4 types in college GPA•With ESTJs, had the 2nd highest mean levelof coping resources.ISTJ: •Among the four highest in college GPA.
INTJ: •Highest GPA among college persisters.ESTJ: There was no statistic about GPA for this type
Obviously, the cautious, traditional "guardian" SJ types are not going to be making as many short sighted decisions. Why? Because they have a black and white(see rule following) essence to their thinking which is more rigidly bound to conventions and societal expectations. While their main strength isn't being far sighted and deep, their SJ combination keeps them within convention and sticking to the tried and true, so they tend to take safer decisions. As a result they avoid the wild risks and ES_P type might take. They don't have to be big picture thinkers or have a deep understanding of the world like an N might, their simple right and wrong view of the world gets them through fine, albeit at a steadier, safer pace. They are the pillars of our society, the every day working man type that can be depended on. For example, the ISTJ is the type that other's set their watches to for being so reliable, dependable, etc.
