Charlie Sheen-Famous Bad Boy, Actor in Rehab again. What's his personality type?

Charlie Sheen Charlie Sheen is a well known actor who is a source of constant public attention, praise and disdain silmultaneously.  He's well known for being Martin Sheen's son, Emilio Estevez's brother as well as starring in movies such as Wall Street, Platoon and acting in the hit tv series Two and a Half Men.  Those are just a few and most recognized bits of his work which I mentioned.

Today I want to take a look at Charlie and try to see what makes him tick and look at how his life has evolved and how this related to his inherent personality and his environment both.  What can we learn about him?  It's officially time to take a seat on the pop culture psychologist's couch.  :)

Charlie grew up in California near Los Angeles and attended high school there.  He wasn't much of a student as he often skipped class and preferred hanging out with friends over his studies.  He did however play an active role on the High School baseball team and began making amateur movies with his fellow future celebrity classmates Rob Lowe and Sean Penn.  Eventually, his family connection to Hollywood and his own interest in films led him to guess where, film!

His first big breakthrough films were Wall Street and Platoon.  Although this led to many more famous films and a couple tv series.  Just to name a few of Charlie's most famous pieces of work: Wall Street, Platoon, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Major League films,  Hot Shot films and had starring roles in hit tv series Spin City and now popular Two and a Half Men (currently not in production as Charlie is in rehab!).

Charlie is also famously known for his problems in the love department and with drugs.   He has been in and out of rehab for abusing Cocaine and Alcohol.  Currently he is in rehab again for the fifth time.

Additionally, he has been accused of domestic violence on different occassions in several romantic relationships.   He recently ended his marriage to Brooke Mueller which was his third wife(he was previously married to actress Denise Richards) after reports of domestic violence and threats he made to her(Brooke Mueller).  There is the well known Heidi Fleiss trial which shed light on Charlie's prostitution habbit.

On his current hit TV show Two and a Half Men, he plays the character Charlie Harper who ironically lives life as a carefree hedonist who enjoys the company of a diverse stable of women and has a drinking hobby or problem depending on how you choose to categorize it, :).

How would we categorize Charlie's Myers Brigg's Type?  Let's ask a few questions:

** So how to type Charlie?  Are his decisions a result of a strong F(feeler) preference which show his lack of control over his emotions or rather are they a result of him avoiding his emotions as a T(thinker) might and turning to drugs and women when things get hard?   I know several T in my life who tend to avoid emotions or live an emotionally simple life and turn to immediate gratification or make decisions in a linearly logical manner as a "solution" to the problem.

** Is Charlie an extroverted actor who loves the limelight or is he actually more of an I with a great SP(artisan) sense of timing and drama which lends him help in acting?   I believe E(extroverts) in general have the advantage in the acting field.  Although this is certainly not always the case.

**Is Charlie a P or a J?   He definitely has a tendency to portray the P arechetype in his roles.  He plays the carefree guy, not one who likes to control or structure the world.

Platoon

** Why such constant trouble in his life if he's a guy with all the resources(financially he is purportedly paid $1.25 million per episode with Two and a half men) and family connections one could need?

I type Charlie as follows after reading an interview, http://www.flixster.com/actor/charlie-sheen/charlie-sheen-playboy-interview where he logically justifies his bad decisions, such as if I know that I can't control my drinking then I might as well go all out and completely party and enjoy life.

One particularly revealing answer in the interview was how he explained the challenge he undertook with his friend to sleep with 10 prositututes in one night in Amsterdam and how they strategically plotted out how to get through the challenge.

Charlie in my opinion is an ISTP.  He is clearly a P(Perceiver) from how he lives his life to the character's he chooses to portray.  He has an unworried and unplanned, "Go with the flow" characteristic about him which is what a lot of people find equal parts fascinating and revolting.  Hearing Charlie talk in interviews and reading his explanations of his decisions there is a logically linear quality to his explanations.

I don't believe his partying and binging is a result of an out of control attempt to deal with life's problems and emotions, it seems more like his desire to have a good time as he thinks that he might as well.

It is what I stated above, a T with a shallower emotional life who happens to follow his thought process to it's logical end, if I have X problem then I will go to Y solution. If I am horny, I will see a prostitute rather than wasting the time trying to pick up some girl who I have no long term intentions with.

I actually type Charlie as more of an introvert than an extrovert.   He mentioned in one interview that he has a lot of nerves appearing on talk shows, "Public speaking is a tremendous fear of mine. The Tonight Show, David Letterman. I would always do a few shots or take an anti-whatever, some prescription relaxation deal and go out there and just kind of just flow with it."

While he is known for being a big partier and a social guy, he doesn't seem like a well of external personality or spastic energy you might see in an E(extrovert).  Watch the youtube interview from the George Lopez show and you be the judge.   Would a big E be afraid of interviews on Letterman?  I doubt it.  I also see him as more of an S(Sensor) as he seems to give direct, to the point answers with more of a literal than abstract quality.

So we've covered our bases: I(not E), S(not N), T(not F) and P(not J).
